The Portland Parkside neighborhood is anchored geographically by the Deering Oaks Park. Parkside is located geographically below (or North West of Congress Street) and is roughly bordered by Forest Ave and Hadlock Field.
The Parkside Neighborhood has seen recent residential real estate development with the conversion of multi family buildings to condos. There are still many 2, 3 and 4 unit multi family buildings which support strong rentals. Gracious victorian single family homes are also terraced above the South/Southwest open space of the park.
Deering Oak Park is popular for the pond, which offers great ice skating. In temperate months, the park is the home to the largest weekly farmer's market on Saturdays. Other recreation in the park includes tennis, walking/jogging, a ball field, basket ball courts and a playground.
